NFL

If you were riding the underdog betting train for most of the NFL season, hopefully you jumped off before Week 10. Last week favourites changed the tide by going 9-5 against the spread (ATS) as home favourites went 6-3 ATS. Underdogs still hold a 79-66-1 edge over underdogs heading into Week 11 – and this week starts with a bang on Thursday Night Football as the Arizona Cardinals visit the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson is currently +190 to win the NFL MVP, just behind Patrick Mahomes at +170, while Arizona QB Kyler Murray is a very popular bet at +700. As for Thursday’s game, the Seahawks opened at -5.5, but that line has come all the way do to Seattle -3. That spread could dip under a field goal, too, with more than 70 percent of bettors supporting the Cardinals to cover.

On Sunday, the 8-0 Pittsburgh Steelers are the biggest favourite of the week at -10 as they visit the Jaguars. Pittsburgh is also 7-2 ATS and nearly 80 percent of early bettors expect that record to improve. The Kansas City Chiefs are another popular bet as they come off their bye week at 7-1 straight up and 6-3 against the spread. The Chiefs are set as 7-point favourites on Sunday Night Football in Las Vegas and are seeing almost 80 per cent of the betting support.

Meanwhile, look out for the New England Patriots. After suffering through a four-game losing streak, the Pats have rebounded to win their last two games, improving to 4-5. New England opened as a 3-point favourite at Houston, then moved to -1, before settling at -2. About three quarters of bets are currently supporting the Pats. The Green Bay Packers are this week’s most popular underdog bet as they’re pegged at +1.5 at the Indianapolis Colts. More than 80 per cent of bets are siding with the Cheeseheads.

Week 11 concludes with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosting the Los Angeles Rams. The Bucs, who are 7-3 straight up, have moved from -3 to -4.

NCAA Football

The NCAA released its postseason schedule last week with a total of 37 bowl games beginning on Dec. 19. Last year there were 46 bowl games but COVID-19 restrictions have cut into the schedule this year. The College Football Playoff games will be held on Jan. 1 followed by the National Championship game on Jan. 11. The Alabama Crimson Tide is the +125 favourite, followed by Ohio State (+260), Clemson (+275), and Notre Dame (+1200).
