Favourites Turn The Tables NFL

NFL

Is this the week that favourites turn the tables on fat-pocketed NFL underdog bettors? After pups went 9-7 against the spread (ATS) last week, they head into the third slate of matchups with a glowing ATS record of 21-11, while sitting at 14-18 straight up. It’s probably no coincidence then that Week 3’s collection of point spreads is a little tighter than we’ve seen so far.

Sunday, there’s a big matchup in Kansas City with the Chiefs hosting the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs opened at -8, then dipped to -6.5, before coming back up to -7 with a lofty 55-point total. As much as casual football fans love Kansas City’s high-flying offence, many point spread bettors have had enough of this squad. The Chiefs have covered the spread just once in their last 13 games overall.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, the Raiders host the Super Bowl-champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs look like they could be even better this season and check in here as 1-point road favourites. The total opened at 52.5 but has ballooned to 56 with 80 per cent of bettors liking the over. They’re also firmly on the Bucs to win this one.

Bettors like another road team in the Sunday Night Football game as Green Bay visits San Francisco as a 3.5-point underdog. About three-quarters of early bets are backing the Cheeseheads after they rebounded with a big win in Week 2.

The last game on tap for the week is an NFC East rivalry showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and the visiting Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys always see a lot of support in these stand-alone games and that’s no different here. Dallas has moved from -3.5 at the open to -4.

Ryder Cup

After last year’s Ryder Cup was postponed due to COVID-19, Team Europe looks to defend its title three years later beginning Friday at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. Team USA is currently set as a -200 favourite to win the competition, but don’t be surprised if that line moves before Friday. You get USA to win by 1-3 points at +218, or Europe to win by the same margin at +341. Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas are co-favorites to win the most points at +800 apiece, followed by Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth at +900. Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau are seeing some interest at +1100.
