NFL Odds: Chiefs-Giants for Monday Night FootballWeek 8’s Monday nighter will feature the Kansas City Chiefs (3-4 SU, 2-5 ATS) hosting the New York Giants (2-5 SU, 3-4 ATS) in a battle of teams with struggling defenses. The Chiefs are big 10-point favourites and coming off a blowout loss in Week 7 to the Tennessee Titans. The total is 52 points—the second-highest total on the board. NFL The NFL’s general betting public tends to like favourites, and home teams so many pundits have some extra cash in their pocket as we move into Week 8. Last week favourites went 8- 4 straight up (SU) and 7-5 against the spread (ATS), with home teams going 9-3 SU and 8-4 ATS. For those of you keeping score at home underdogs and away teams are still covering at a 54 per cent clip as we head into Thursday Night’s big matchup between the 6-1 Green Bay Packers and the 7-0 Arizona Cardinals. Oddsmakers opened with the Cardinals set as 3-point favourites, but that line has swelled all the way to -6.5 with nearly 65 per cent of the betting action on Arizona. The Packers will be without wide receivers Davante Adams and Allen Lazard after both landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The rest of Week 8 features some big point spreads to consider. Last week you would have seen the New York Jets as 3-point underdogs at home to Cincinnati. Not anymore. Now the Jets are set at +10.5 with more than 90 per cent of early bets backing the Bengals as they face New York’s backup quarterback Mike White, who makes his first NFL start. In Houston, the Texans are big 14.5-point favourites against the Rams and in Buffalo, the Bills are at -14 against the visiting Dolphins. The betting action is all in on those two big favourites, as well. In Monday Night Football, bettors are still riding the slumping Kansas City Chiefs as they host the New York Giants. That line has dipped from Kansas City -13 at the open down to -10, but we’re still seeing 70 per cent of point spread bets come in on the Chiefs. NHL It’s been a slow start out of the gate for some of this year’s Stanley Cup favourites like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vegas Golden Knights, and Tampa Bay Lightning. So far, oddsmakers aren’t over-reacting with all three of those teams among the top six Stanley Cup favourites. Colorado is still in top spot at +271. From there, though, two teams have made some big moves up the board with the unbeaten Florida Panthers (+472) and Edmonton Oilers (+686) asserting themselves into the conversation. Meanwhile, Oilers captain Connor McDavid is already starting to run away as the Hart Trophy favourite. He leads the league in scoring with 13 points and is at -103 to win the MVP award. The Chiefs’ loss to the Tennessee Titans last Sunday was ugly for the former Super Bowl favourites. The Titans scored 27 points in the first half and then went scoreless in the second. All the Chiefs could manage was a field goal in the third quarter. Turnovers were a problem once again, with KC tallying another three turnovers for a league-high total of 17 through seven games. The sirens are blaring in Kansas City, and pressure is on coach Andy Reid to get a victory against the New York Giants on Monday. The Giants are in the bottom 10 for both offense and defense, but they broke through last Sunday when they beat Carolina Panthers 25-3, while missing most of their top skill players. Down 3-0 going into the second quarter, the Giants stepped up in the final three quarters, with QB Daniel Jones throwing for a touchdown, and special teams kicker Graham Gano doing his part with three field goals on three attempts.
