NHL

The Stanley Cup playoffs may be well underway, but the intensity is about to elevate a notch with the North Division joining the party on Wednesday. The Edmonton Oilers host the Winnipeg Jets in Game 1 as a -174 favourite. The Oilers are also a big -250 favourite to win the series. Then on Thursday, the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Montreal Canadiens in their series-opener. While this rivalry often causes NHL pundits to throw the stats out the window, there’s no denying the fact that the Habs are a huge underdog in this series. Toronto is at -208 to win Game 1 and at -435 to advance. The Leafs also continue to see the most betting support of any team to win the Stanley Cup at +541. South of the border bettors are still piling cash on the current Stanley Cup favourite Colorado Avalanche (+354) and the Tampa Bay Lightning (+464). Other popular futures bets include the Oilers at +1600, the Vegas Golden Knights at +651, and the Boston Bruins at +1000.

NBA

The NBA playoff picture for the first round will be finalized by the weekend after the play-in tournament concludes. There is some major star-power vying for playoff seeds in this mini tournament, too. LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers face Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors on Wednesday. The winner of that game will advance to the playoffs as the No. 7 seed while the loser will have to beat the Memphis Grizzlies to claim the No. 8 seed. The Lakers are currently set as 5.5-point favourites with about 60 per cent of the public’s betting support. So, the Lakers, who are currently set as second favourites to win the NBA title (+375), still have to win one of the next two games to claim one of the final playoff spots in the West. Yes, it’s been a strange season. The first round of the playoffs will then begin on Saturday. The NBA Championship favourite Brooklyn Nets (+187) are still waiting to find out who they will face following the East’s play-in tournament.

PGA

The second major tournament of the season tees up on Thursday with Rory McIlroy as a +900 favourite to win the PGA Championship at Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina. At 7,850 total yards, it’s the longest major championship course ever. McIlroy has won the PGA Championship twice, once at this course back in 2012 as he cruised to an eight-stroke victory. Following McIlroy at the top of the odds board is a who’s who of golf’s best players including Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth at+1200, Jon Rahm at +1300, and then Dustin Johnson and Bryson Dechambeau at +1500.
